Nesting Bird Inspection Surveys
Nesting bird checks must be undertaken within the breeding bird season of March – August inclusively, prior to any vegetation clearance or building demolition, where nesting suitability has been identified.
Nesting bird checks should be undertaken no more than 24 hours prior to proposed clearance / demolition works, by a suitably experienced ecologist. In some cases 48 hours prior may be deemed acceptable.
If an active nest is identified outside of the standard recognised nesting season of March - August, a nesting bird check and monitoring will still be required prior to clearance works taking place.
Where active nests are present, a buffer zone will be created around the nest in which no works are to take place until chicks have fledged. Once it is confirmed that chicks have fledged, works may continue within the buffer zone.
